Honor 90 5G First Look

HonorTech, also known as HTech, has introduced a new phone in India called the Honor 90 5G after a long break. It’s a phone that costs less than Rs 40,000. Other companies like Realme, Motorola, and OnePlus have also released similar phones recently, making the competition tough. Today, I’ll share my first thoughts on the Honor 90 5G in emerald green.

The Honor 90 5G doesn’t focus on just one thing; it tries to include all the popular features. It has a big 6.7-inch curved display that looks cool, a fancy design, a powerful 200-megapixel camera on the back, and a 50-megapixel camera on the front for selfies. The back of the phone is made of glass, and it has a strong frame made of plastic. The camera bumps on the back look like rings and are shiny. The rest of the back has small dots that shine in the light and help you hold the phone better. These dots also keep the phone from getting too smudged with fingerprints.

The frame of the Honor 90 5G is shiny too. On the right side, you’ll find the power button and volume controls. At the bottom, there’s a slot for your SIM card, a port for charging, and a speaker. There’s a microphone at the top and another one at the bottom. The display of the Honor 90 5G curves at the edges and has thin borders all around except for the slightly thicker bottom part. There’s a small notch at the top center for the front camera. The phone is pretty slim at 7.8mm and weighs 183g. It has a unique design that stands out among other phones.

The Honor 90 5G’s display is impressive, with a fast refresh rate of 120Hz. It’s an AMOLED screen with high resolution and can get super bright. This makes videos and pictures look sharp and colorful, whether you’re indoors or outdoors. Inside the Honor 90 5G, it uses a powerful processor called Snapdragon 7 Gen 1 from Qualcomm. Not many phones in India have this processor, but it’s built on a good 4nm process, which is a technical way of saying it’s fast and efficient. This processor also supports 14 different 5G bands, which means it can connect to super-fast internet. In my short time using it, the phone felt speedy.

My review unit of the Honor 90 5G came with 8GB of RAM and 256GB of storage, which is plenty for social media, watching videos, and some games. We’ll test it more thoroughly in our full review to see how it handles everything. To make sure the phone doesn’t get too hot during heavy use, HonorTech has added some special cooling technology.

Now, let’s talk about the camera. The main rear camera is a whopping 200 megapixels. There’s also a 12-megapixel ultra-wide and macro camera, plus a third depth camera. The main camera can take really detailed photos, and you can zoom in up to 10 times. The front camera for selfies is 50 megapixels, and it can also record in high quality. I took some initial pictures, and they looked good, but we’ll dive deeper into the camera’s performance in our full review.

The Honor 90 5G has a big battery that can last a whole day. But it’s important to note that the charger doesn’t come in the box; you only get a USB cable. The phone runs on Magic OS 7.1, which is based on Android 13. There are some apps that come pre-installed, but you can uninstall them if you want. The phone also has some cool features like RAM Turbo, NFC for making payments, a fingerprint sensor under the screen, and fast storage. The company promises to provide software updates for two years and security updates for three years.
